SE/SW Scout and explorer Quiz

FAO all Scout and Explorer Leaders of Leicester South East and South West Districts

We hope you are well and getting back to grips with a full face to face programme.

Around this time of year, we would normally be arranging our annual inter-district quiz. Last year we went virtual, with everyone taking part individually from home, and although we didn’t feel that we could safely put everyone into a single room again this year, we’ve tried to get team-play back into the quiz.

This year’s quiz will take place on Monday 29th November, starting at 7:00pm (please be ready to start by this time). Teams will be made up of 4 players.

The quiz will be streamed via Zoom, with answers being submitted electronically. It’s designed for all teams from each group to be located in their normal meeting venue where possible.

To take part, you will therefore need the following:

A wifi connection (or high-allowance or unlimited mobile data connection).

A laptop or device with Zoom installed, which can be used to show the quiz. We anticipate that each venue will only need one stream of the quiz running, ideally on a large screen for everyone to see, but as a minimum in a loud speaker for everyone to hear.

A device per team to enter and submit the answers (this can be a computer, tablet or mobile device, as long as it can connect to the internet. This is webpage based and does not use too much data, so if necessary, a mobile data connection can be used).

Because teams will be based in their meeting venues, there will be a few changes to how the quiz runs (for example, we won’t be able to play a joker, and will rely on leaders and the Scout Law (a Scout is to be trusted). We’ll also not be providing refreshments (obviously), but will build in a 10 minute break if you wish to arrange something yourselves. Risk assessments for the evening will need to be produced by yourselves, as we don’t know your venues well enough.

Details and instructions will be sent closer to the time, however, please confirm whether you wish to take part. There is no cost to enter this year’s quiz, and you can enter as many teams as you like.

If you cannot access wifi or data in your meeting venue, or cannot access your meeting venue on the Monday evening, but wish to enter teams, please let us know. Similarly, if you have a large venue and could safely accommodate teams in addition to your own group, please let us know so that we can help others out.

Entries should be confirmed to by 15th November.

If you have any questions, please let us know.
